Some people have noticed I got rid of the “Links of Doom” tab on my navigation bar in my last site cleanup. Truthfully, I kept forgetting to update it, and all the links were out of date, and I am lazy and needed room of the Metalheads 101 tab, so that’s why there are no metal links for you.

While I’d prefer if you read my site and my site ONLY, and then sent me truckloads of money for my troubles (you’d have to drive the truck yourself, as if you tried to post the truck, New Zealand Post would probably lose it), if you HAVE to get your metal fix from all over the web, I recommend these guys. Also, I believe I mention Justin Bieber three times in this post. Search Engine Optimization technique, coincidence, or secret fetish? You decide.

That Devil Music

Rob Liz and crew at That Devil Music have given the site a complete overhaul, and it’s now clogging up my Google reader with so much awesomeness I had to delete 37 other feeds just to make room for it. New feature columns include “Devils Rejects” – taking the piss about terrible band photos (and there are a LOT of terrible band photos), and “Devil’s Advocate” – pitting albums and musicians against each other to see who comes out on top.

brenocide-thatsnotmetal

What? Me? Not Metal? Surely you jest?

That’s Not Metal

In the words of Brenocide, the author of That’s Not Metal, “That’s Not Metal is a blog that dictates what things and actions should be avoided in order to remain true metal. Period. TNM was created out of necessity for those increasingly frustrated, elitist members of the Heavy Metal community whose voices typically fall on deaf, open-minded ears.” If, like me, you agree that using a guitar as a skank accessory and Putting Real Effort into Hating Justin Bieber are not metal, than you’ll get a kick out of this site, and if you disagree, well, you’re obviously a poser.

Metal Traveller

On Metal Traveller, Andres combines my two favorite things in the world – metal, and travel. I am quite insanely envious of his epic list of countries visited (Serbia! Israel! Poland! Taiwan!) and you don’t even want to KNOW how many amazing bands he’s seen. I’m really enjoying reading about all his adventures and hope he gets those travel guides written soon …

Positively Bleak

E. Bleak is one of the first readers of my blog who wasn’t related to or shagging me, so she always deserves a mention. She’s also another of the minuscule number of chick metal bloggers out here. Her blog, Positively Bleak runs a variety of subjects, from her local Boston metal scene, to metal valentines day gift ideas, to the fact she got to see Manowar live (the bitch). She’s a huge stoner / doom metal fan, and has impeccable taste in music and clothes.

No Clean Singing

If you’re desperate for some new music, but you don’t know who’s good and who sounds like Justin Bieber strangling a ukelele, then Islander and the crew at NCS have you covered. Mostly, it’s just Islander, with his sick sense of humour and impeccable taste in melodic death metal, that will have you hooked. I can’t believe one person can listen to, and have an opinion on, this much music. I’m particularly a fan of “Eye-Catchers” – profiles of particularly epic album art (one thing even non-metalheads could agree we excel at), and That’s Metal … But It’s Not Music – which may or may not be inspired by my blog. :) (Also, I may, or may not, be writing a guest post for NCS as we speak).

Death Metal Baboon

Death Metal Baboon automatically wins the prize for most metal URL ever. A team of six fucking brutal contributors (who don’t look anything like baboons) source music from all over the world, from all over the metal sphere, and drop it all on the blog for you to listen to or throw away in disgust. Byrd36 comments over here a lot and always has some seriously obscure and awesome bands to suggest. In one of my favorite pieces of metal blogging, site-founder Niek offers a guide on How to Listen to Death Metal.

So, apart from these six wicked sites who you should obviously be reading, what other metal blogs/sites do you enjoy?

You da best Steff! And yes, the very first installment of THAT’S METAL back in Jan 2010 was inspired by you and your site. You may notice that the Category links at our site still include one called “Steff’s Posts”, expressing our never-say-die hope that you will one day gift us again with another guest post. Me very excited to see the hint that you may be doing another one soon!!

    • steff says:

@Islander – urgh, I WISH I could do more, so many more, but I have no time! so very little time! But I have sent you something just this minute …

Thanks for including DMB in this list! That Devil Music and Metal Traveler are two that I’ve yet to visit, but I will! Though, the other four along with The Number of the Blog, MetalSucks and of course, Steff Metal, pretty much round out my “daily route”. I also try and check in at Free Metal Albums and Death Metal Invasion on a fairly regular basis, thats where a lot of obscure goodies come from.
