Linking Horn: Sod all time till Christmas
November 15th, 2010 | Linking Horn, Makes me GiggleI have nearly, nearly finished all my Christmas shopping. For me, this is disorganized. (you all have permission to stone me now).
This week, in honor of the fact that we’re all got gift’s to buy and pre-christmas bonuses burning holes in our wallets (well, not me. I work for a charity / myself), I’ve got a couple of awesome gift guides coming up this week, as well as introducing a new Steff Metal sponsor (one of our most awesome yet). But for now, I’ll tide you over with some linkage.
A New Zealand musican, Jordan Reyne, who I think many of you will quite enjoy. Not metal, but amazing. Jordan combines pioneer-era found sounds with folk instrumentation and a seriously ethereal voice. Her latest album How the Dead Live tells the story of one of NZ’s pioneer woman and a character called “History” who is determined to overlook her. Yes, I pulled that pretty much straight from the website, but I’m rather mesmerized by the music at present. NZ Musician calls it “The soundtrack to the drama of unease” – I wish someone would say that about my books one day!
Art, Science and Mythology come together in an odd and slightly humorous way in the Science Tarot. Divination doesn’t exactly speak to me as the perfect medium through which to awaken curiosity about science, but hey, I would never say no to a beautiful drawn, oddball of a tarot deck. The Wheel of Fortune is Schrödinger’s Cat. That makes me giggle.
Seriously Awesome Halloween Goth Wedding.
Satyr of Satyricon fame has designed his own wine. Liz’s blog post features a hilarious look back at the Satyr that once was.
You ain’t never heard Black Sabbath quite like this. Hellsongs are an indie-pop group from Sweden who perform soft, radio-friendly covers of metal songs which actually aren’t all that bad. It’s crazy not being able to recognise these songs – even the lyrics often don’t help!
Ebooks catching on quicker than digital music? An interesting thought. Discuss. Also, did anyone see that cryptic iTunes message on the Apple homepage? Consider my interest very definitely piqued.

Russia’s Hammer and Sickle Canteen. Owing to a character in my current book undertaking a journey into Siberia, I’ve been quite fascinated with Russian history as of late, so this article on WebUrbanist caught my eye. This building served more than 9000 meals at any one time to nearby military construction workers, and it’s unique constructivist style makes it an important part of Russia’s architectural history. It shouldn’t be knocked down.

Hammet taking out that kid is one of the funniest things ive ever seen. Poor kid though!
I’m seeing that as a scientific proof.
Creating your own wine makes you a pussy!
