Aya, Blind, Thorn - Neo Victorian antique copper filigree and brass screw pendants, $21US, from Haren Royal

Welcome to our newest blog sponsor: Harem Royal – taxidermy jewelry for those with gothic sensibilities and Victorian flair. Deadly gorgeous Glam Goth, Avant Garde Victorian Steampunk and Vampire Black Forest Taxidermy Jewelry. Roman, the beauty from Belgrade behind Harem Royal, describes her collection as “Screwpulous”.

“Beauty is a weapon, right?” Says Roman. “You can`t have the femme without fatale.” Harem Royal balances between the Oriental need for seduction and Western hunger for power, satisfying the clashing demands of women’s secret desires.

I don’t obey rules. They make me disappear. I believe in beauty. The one that settles for nothing and forgives no one. Beauty as weapon.

Being a girl with a bit of an online browsing fetish, I spend a lot of time eyeing up jewelry, and I have to say, Roman’s designs are some of the most original I’ve seen in a long, long time. I love the use of the triangle as the predominant shape in the pieces, and the extensive use of brass and copper, and the exquisite placing of old screws, clock hands and Victorian fastenings.

Unlike a lot of the “gothic” jewelry out these days, Roman’s pieces have a real tough edge – the sharp lines of the metal mixed with the very “magickal” shapes that are reminiscent of occult sigils. There’s a real pagan, ritualistic quality to each piece – echoed in the metal crescent shapes Roman uses to create the main forms of her neo-Victorian jewelry.

And, although I am not normally a fan of taxidermy in jewelry (many of the pieces around are beautiful, but not something I’d wear), the use of leathers and furs in Harem Royal “Screwpulous” seem more sensitive – they’re the feature of each piece without screaming “I’m part of a dead animal”, which I admire.

Harem Royal pieces draw from as diverse inspiration as medieval mythology, steampunk jewelry, Classical mythology and gothic fairies.

FYI: Loved ones who have yet to buy me a Christmas present, check out the Aya or Blind pendants above …

IMO this is your best sponsor yet – these designs are stunning and the prices are seriously low for the materials and quality of work. Very cool.
