Remember last month, when I announced I’m going to be one of the judges in the Keep it Live and Loud band comp, put on by Blackout – The Flat radio show? Well, if you missed it, I am. 23 bands were selected as finalists, and you can check out my reviews of them all here. Over the last couple of months fans have been furiously voting, and the top five are battling it out NEXT WEEKEND for the chance to win the huge prize pack.
With thousands of votes coming in for all of the top 25, it’s now down to Austere, Blackleaf Gardens, Day 3, Diamond Doll and The Crimson Vendetta to wield their musical weaponry. The final showdown is on June 30th at The Coda Lounge, which is a fucking awesome West Auckland venue I had the pleasure of experiencing for the first time at the Maskara gig last weekend. It’s basically a huge warehouse in the middle of an industrial farm – the stage is big, the sound is huge, and in true metal fashion, the neighbours are seriously hacked off. There will also be a live stream of audio and video on the night for fans who can’t make it up to Auckland to support their favourite band.
Last year’s competition winners Curse The Fallen will be opening, and after that we get straight into the action. This is a FREE entry gig, so no excuses. Doors open 7pm for general public, and there will be limited spaces – the place is going to be packed. Band Merch, Brutalitees and Flat FM gear available to purchase on the night. There will even be spot prizes throughout the evening. This gig is R18.
