Metal Mixtape: Female Metal Bands and Musicians

Brutal Tunes, Metal Mixtape

We’re celebrating the awesomeness that is metal chicks this week, so I’ve put together a quick little mixtape of some cool metal chicks.

Arch Enemy – Nemesis

One of the most prominent females in extreme metal, Angela Gossow growls as well as the boys.

Astarte – Mutter Astarte

Holy satan fuck! I haven’t heard any of the recent releases from Astarte (I own a couple of their earlier, black metal releases), but my, have these ladies matured! Loving this track from this Greek metal band’s Demonized release.

Gallhammer – World To be Ashes

I’ve loved these crazy Japanese chicks for many years now. Gallhammer have a really unique sound, influenced by black and doom, but – as many Japanese bands do – manage to somewhat defy classification.

Tormentress – Fuck the Police

Covering Sodom, this Singapore thrash outfit rip it up.

Here’s an original from Tormentress. This video cracks me up because of the muppets in the crowd. If this were a NZ gig you couldn’t move for people sailing over the foldbacks Wicked song, though.

Holy Moses – Too Drunk to Fuck

In my humble opinion, more chicks need to wear denim vests.

Putrefied Beauty – Purulent Stigmata

This Italian all-female brutal death outfit don’t fucking hold back.

Civet – Son of a Bitch

I’m going a bit punk rock with my non-metal tracks this week. A couple of kick-ass all-female punk bands I adore. From their Hell Hath No Fury album, click here to see the official video

Distillers – City of Angels

I adore Brody’s voice.

Epica – Quietus

An old one from Epica that really shows off Simone’s amazing voice (and her other … amazingness)

Opera IX – Born in the Grave

And lastly, more Greek black metal.

I am SWAMPED with work at the moment, and I’ve got a gig next week and it’s moy birthday on Friday, so forgive me if posting might be a little light this week. In the meantime, don’t forget to leave a comment on THIS POST to win a lifetime subscription to the Metal Queen’s ebook series.

Readers, more awesome female metal bands and musicians, please?

The fact that all of us, including myself, skipped over Liz Buckingham and Electric Wizard as well as Jo Bench from the mighty Bolt Thrower means we all need to turn in our metal cards.

Oh yeah…check out “Ashes you Leave”. Their early stuff was death/doom, while their current stuff is more gothic doom.

Of course you have all your goth metal female fronted bands Within Temptation, Nightwish, Delain etc also some really good heavy metal stuff like Tiosphere, Lullacry, Sinergy.

Nice post. . .it’s good to see women in metal getting some positive attention.

I’d recommend Ludicra (black metal), Estuary (dealth/thrash with a female growler), Black Math Horseman (atmospheric doom), Jex Thoth (retro doom), and Madder Mortem.

Happy Beurzday !

I’d say The Agonist, Eths and Straight Line Stitch for female fronted metalcore bands, Kylesa for some stoner/psychedelic rock/sludge and Iwrestledabearonce for some post-hardcore.

Happy birthday Steff…\m/ \m/
.
As for bands….November Grief with Stéphanie Masson played some legit Death Metal ,and that girl could growl. Its a shame they never got past the demo stage.
Mythic and Derketa, were both awesome all female Doom/Death bands.
.
For current stuff I like Dreaming Dead who plays some pretty sweet melodeath, Crystal Viper, who plays some good Iron Maiden worship, and Draconian who plays great Death/Doom with the rough male vs clean female vocal style
