Metal Mixtape: Steff’s Black Metal Favorites

Metal Mixtape

A few of my favorites to blacken your weekend. Enjoy.

Bathory – Odin’s Ride over Nordland

Just a little warm-up to get you started.

Bathory – A Fine Day to Die

Satyricon – Dark Medieval Times

Necromantia – Scarlet Witching Screams

I love the more traditional metal elements in Hellenic black metal – there’s often an emphasis on shredding and more traditional song structures. Remember, there is no guitar in this song.

Bathory – Blood Fire Death

It’s awesome. Fucking awesome.

Rotting Christ – You are I

Burzum – Dunkelheit

Rotting Christ – My Sacred Path

Burzum – Jesu Dod

If you go to the page on youtube with this vid, there’s a bunch of people saying they wish they could see Burzum live, which rather cracked me up. I mean, I’d love to see a twelve-armed Varg ripping through this track on four guitars, his bass and the drums like some unholy satanic Krishna, too. But … really?

Bathory – Dies Irae

Excuse me?? You can NEVER overrepresent Bathory!!

Many solo acts are performed onstage with the aid of a backing band. My man’s industrial project is one-man, but it would totally suck if it stayed basement-dwelling internet-promoted like many a project. he recruited musicians (myself included) and we play his songs how he wrote them. now his music can be performed and appreciated live, which is, in my opinion, the best way to enjoy music.

Interesting Compilation! Except Burzum. I do not like Burzum.

But I like different BM!

My Favs: Immortal, Watain, Glorior Belli, Secrets of the Moon, Behemoth and DISSECTION (ok, last 2 not pure BM)!!!

Some pretty unkown Band: Mondstille.

Perhaps 1 mayhem song, 1 enslaved song, and 1 gorgoroth song would even it out a bit. Bathory is definitely being over-represented in my opinion.

It’s just ‘cuz I like to use songs from albums / themes I’ve talked about earlier in the week.
