If you’ve got young kids, or you know someone who does, you’re gonna love this. My amazing friend Sarah (Helles Pont) has created an amazing product – Viking Themed Teething Toys. She’s turned to Kickstarter to raise the funds to put the toys into production.
“I wanted to design and create a teething toy that is both soothing and safe, something easy for her to grasp and chew on without being a choking risk. And, although I’m happy when my baby is happy, I’d also like it to be a product that is aesthetically pleasing to my slightly dark and off-beat taste; an epic item that I couldn’t resist buying myself. I love creating in all forms, and I sure as hell love seeing a wicked little twist on an already existent item to set it apart from the rest.”I thought long and hard about what kind of teether I wanted to design; something brutal but baby-friendly that I had yet to see on the market that met the needs of baba’s cutting teeth. I looked everywhere for inspiration until one afternoon, the little one reached for my stuffed Thor doll. Of course! Who doesn’t love VIKINGS?
Many Gods, Goddesses, their offspring and weapons were considered, but 3 particular designs ticked the boxes in consideration of little hands, little mouths, sore gums and parents wanting to buy something cool.
The ‘Teething for Odin’ set of teethers was born.
Sarah has created three wicked designs – Mjölnir (Thor’s Hammer), Sleipnir (Odin’s 8-legged steed), and Jörmungandr (the world serpent. The silicone teethers are to be produced in a responsible, fully certified factory approved by SGS/LFGB/FDA and EU, and are BPA, phthalate, lead, PVC and latex free. They are coloured using non-toxic materials, and are microwave and dishwasher safe. Go to the Teething for Odin Kickstarter Page to check out the rest of the designs and choose from a range of cool rewards, including sets of teethers, onesies, engraved beer glasses, and even a heavy metal baby photoshoot.
If you’re not familiar with the way pledging on Kickstarter works – You decide on a cool project to back (I choose this one!), choose which reward you would like, make the pledge for that amount, and that amount will only be charged on your card IF the project has successfully reached the $3700 goal on the 3rd of June (and not before then).
If you would like to pledge, do it sooner rather than later. When it gets to 70% funded Sarah has got some cool freebies and colour options to reveal – if the project surpasses the funding level, Sarah’s able to add some more colours.
I’m a huge kickstarter supporter. I’ve funded about 8 campaigns so far (Molly Crabapple paintings! Thermion Music! Lovecraftian Childrens Books! Edgar Allen Poe Art Books!), and I love being able to see the process of someone really passionate getting their creative project off the ground. Plus, you get cool stuff. If you’ve never pledged before, I urge you to give it a go – support some rad people doing cool, creative things.
Helles Teeth Teethers would make a great gift for friends or family having a baby, or as a heavy metal accessory for your own bairn. Check out the Teething for Odin Kickstarter Campaign for more details, and to make a pledge.
