Wacken Tickets Arrived

Wacken tickets have arrived!

So … I am happy.

They came with the requisite burger king vouchers, random paraphernalia, sample CV (which I will talk about later this week), and our new WOA t-shirts.

... and the back

I normally hate wearing t-shirts with swear words on them, but I make an exception for this.

Today’s announcement confirms Ozzy Osbourne as the Night to Remember headliner on the Thursday night. Not too exciting for me, I must admit, as we saw Ozzy at Rock2Wgtn a couple of years ago, but nevertheless, the general Wacken excitedness is in the air.

In other metal festival announcements, Blind Guardian just confirmed for 70,000 Tons of Metal, making the four-day cruise the best festival lineup of 2011 so far. CDH has to work for his old man that week, but he said I could go if I wanted. Am seriously tempted, but with most of the cheap cabins gone, it’s probably better to save my money …

I wanna know, who’s got tickets to what shows / festivals lined up for the end of this year or 2011? A lot of people say we’re mental for booking tickets so far in advance, but, it’s not like we just take a few days off work and drive an hour out of town, like some lucky Germans I might mention. It’s a lot of planning and saving to get back to Europe, and I’m really hoping we’ll be able to stay for a good long while this time.

Peace, love and heavy fucking metal

We want to travel 2012 from Australia, and wish to know is it camping only for the 3 days. We are bringing our 14 yo son and wonder if there is any form of accommodation for the likes of some who wish to sleep occasionally. We are a tad old to stay awake for 3 days.

@Vikingcis – Yay for more Aussies going – you’re in for an amazing time! The festival is surrounded by huge fields, which is where everyone camps. Most people camp in tents, but you can do what we did and rent a campervan – the campervan section is further away from the festival grounds, so it’s quieter, or you get book one of the special Wacken campervans (have electricity and water hooked up) or you can stay in a hotel in Itzehoe (the next largest town over) and take a bus to and from the festival each day. I believe there are also a few guesthouses available in the Wacken township itself. I’m going to do a big post on this exact topic either this week or next week, so if you stick around the blog I can give you some definite information / people to contact.

Hi, can you please be so kind as to tell me how much the price is for the entire festival tickets, I am planning on going in 2012 and am just adding up all the costs, thanks

@Chris – The price of tickets varies by around E10 every year, so I couldn’t tell you exactly, but they’re about E110-120 ($200 NZ, roughly – I don’t know what that will be in your currency). Pretty sweet for around 90 bands, I reckon. Hope to see you there in 2012!

Hey Steff,

I bought a 3 bed cabin for 70,000 Tons of Metal aaaaaaages ago so it’s one of the semi-cheapish ones (are ANY of them cheap? really?) . One of the guys I’m going with MAY not be able to make it, so is looking for people who are interested incase things go further pear-shaped, would you be interested? Flick me an email if so. We also have a 3 bed hotel room the day before and after.

Chur!

@Sarah. Wow – thanks for thinking of me! I am SO interested. Wish I was rich. I would have to let you know after Christmas, which is probably too late. But I have another friend who might also be keen, and he IS rich, so I’ve passed this on to him, too.

Would be great to see you in Wacken xD!

Wacken isn’t a pure Metal Festival anymore… Last year some Punkbands played! So its all possible. Accept is pretty plausible. They released a Album and i haven’t seen that they tour in August.

We speculated some bands:

sodom
iced earth
helloween
motörhead
in flames
turisas
ensiferum
amon amarth
children of bodom
saxon
suidakra
dimmu borgir
watain
kreator
belphegor
rage
volbeat
sabaton
korpiklaani
hammerfall
communic

@MrPolek – I hope, for both our sakes, at least some of that list is true.

Yay! Wacken2k11 will be great! (as every wacken). I will be there! Campground K – as every Wacken since 2k7!

There are some rumors that Helloween and/or Sodom are up for Wacken! Would be great!

And next shows i may go to:

Inna couple of Weeks “Thrashfest” with Kreator, Exodus, Death Angel and Suicidal Angels.

In December theres a Show with Onkel Tom (Mr. Angelrippers first sideproject) and “Die Knappen” (Angelrippers other sideproject) and a couple of unkown bands.

In February there is a Helloween Gig!

Lots of fun to come =)

@MrPolek – I will come say hi. We will be in whichever campground has the campervans in it (I think it is R).

Helloween and Sodom would be incredible. On my wishlist are Eluveitie, Cynic, Ensiferum, Accept and Indica (not metal, but they’re on the promo CD). If any of them get announced I will be so happy. It’s already the perfect lineup though because all we wanted to see was Blind Guardian with a German audience.

That Thrashfest sounds wicked. This is why I want to move to Europe so bad \m/

Ah..the best thing we get here on the east coast of the U.S. is Maryland Deathfest…conveniently located 20 minutes from where I live. While it dosnt compare to the epicness of the European festivals, its shaping up pretty nice. Coroner, Hail of Bullets, Marduk and Neurosis for 2011, among others. Philly has started a good one too….Hostile City Deathfest, havent heard anything about their 2011 show yet.

@Rob – that’s a decent lineup!

Hmm…the US festival circuit has really not been my thing for a while now…Ozzfest has been a drag, we have hipsterfests like SXSW, and I guess Sleep is playing Holy Mountain at some festival in upstate NY (where one must also rent a cabin on a ski resort to attend), but it’s all so expensive for very little payoff beyond bragging rights. Wacken looks like a blast, but sleeping in a tent is so not my thing. ;)

I’ll stick to my basement shows. :D

@E – We rent a campervan at Wacken – all the comforts of home while sharing a field with 70 000 metalheads. It’s perfect.

I like a good festival as much as the next person, but they’re only as good as the crowd going. I’ve heard from various people that the Ozzfest crowd is just not pleasant. And, after going to European festivals, I’m less inclined to be tolerant of the NZ crowds at BDO and No Sleep Till Auckland. At least at a basement show, there’s only 20 other people there, and you can always stand up the back and give everyone a stony look until they fuck off.

Yay!! Congratulations!

As for shows this year, I’m going to just one: Sonata Arctica next Thursday. Maybe, just maybe, I’ll get to see Rhapsody in December. I recently bought a new flat, and I’m fixing it so I can move in, so I had to cut out on a lot of things, concerts included. But I’m happy anyway ’cause I’ll finally get to have my own metal home.

@Altáriel – congrats on your new flat! I know all about how that can make one very poor very quickly. I haven’t seen Sonata Arctica yet, so I’m rather jealous! Hopefully they’ll be announced for Wacken.
